Highest paid world leader, Singapore’s PM Wong, to get $1 million salary increase
Singapore’s government has announced a raise in the annual salaries of its ministers and office holders, including Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, already the highest paid political leader in the world.
BBC News reports that Wong’s pay package will rise by S$1.4 million ($1.1m) to S$3.6 million, a jump of over 60%. He said he will donate the increase to charity over five years.
Wong argued the raise was necessary to attract talent, though the move has drawn criticism amid concerns over job security and rising living costs in Singapore, where the median monthly income is S$5,775.
