How AI-generated photos entered INEC voter register — ICT director
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has blamed some registration officers for introducing suspected artificial intelligence-generated photographs and irregular records into its preliminary voters’ register.
According to The Punch, INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Lawrence Bayode, disclosed this during an interview on Arise Television on Friday.
Bayode explained that certain officers allegedly used their authorised login credentials to introduce questionable entries into the database.
“Some of these pictures are AI-generated. Some of them not AI-generated, but very bad registration. And this thing got into the register by the registration officers and because they have access to register people,” he said.
He disclosed that the irregularities were identified through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
“When the ABIS was run on the system, we saw these people. We know what they did. We know how they did it. But honestly, I don’t know why,” he added.
INEC said efforts were ongoing to clean the register before final certification.
