According to a report by SaharaReporters, a former Guards Brigade officer has accused ex-military ruler Ibrahim Babangida of dodging responsibility for the June 12, 1993 election annulment and the execution of General Mamman Vatsa.

The officer recalled a 1993 Iftar at Aso Rock where Babangida made a remark suggesting he anticipated blocking MKO Abiola’s agenda. He also disputed Babangida’s claim that he lacked power to save Vatsa, insisting the former leader had full authority as Commander-in-Chief to alter the tribunal’s sentence.

The officer described Babangida as a coward who consistently blamed others, including late General Sani Abacha, for controversial decisions made under his own administration, calling his recent autobiography an attempt to shift responsibility for events he should have owned.
