Ibrahim Gusau resigns as NFF president amid mounting pressure

Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau and several board members have reportedly resigned amid growing pressure over the management of Nigerian football. Vanguard News reports that the NFF leadership faced increased scrutiny following the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, ending Nigeria’s uninterrupted participation in the tournament since 1991.

The federation has also come under investigation over the use of a N17 billion government intervention fund intended to settle outstanding national-team payments. Eight of the 13 executive committee members are reportedly no longer in office, potentially affecting the NFF elections scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
