Consulting firms rethink remote work as AI increases need for human interaction

Major consulting firms are bringing junior employees back into offices as artificial intelligence automates more technical work and increases the value of interpersonal skills.

According to the Financial Times, executives at EY, KPMG and PwC say empathy, storytelling, leadership and face-to-face collaboration are becoming increasingly important as AI handles routine analytical tasks.

Firms are responding by strengthening in-person training, coaching and office culture, particularly for younger workers whose early careers were shaped by remote working.

Some companies are maintaining hybrid arrangements, but leaders argue that junior staff develop professional judgment and client-handling skills faster through direct workplace interaction and mentorship.
