Ibrahim Traoré defies FIFA threat as Burkina Faso government moves into football
Burkina Faso president Ibrahim Traoré has vowed to intervene in the country’s football affairs despite the risk of FIFA sanctions. Traoré said the government had no choice but to step in following concerns over the organisation and development of football, including infrastructure and player support.
“We have no choice; we are obliged to intervene, whether we are suspended or not,” he said, according to HF World. The comments came after Burkina Faso’s chaotic international break, which included a 7–0 defeat by Argentina.
FIFA rules require national associations to operate independently from government interference, meaning direct intervention could expose Burkina Faso to sanctions, including suspension.
