ICC dismisses petition submitted by unknown party against Nigeria

The International Criminal Court has dismissed a case filed by an unknown petitioner seeking an investigation into alleged systemic kidnappings in Nigeria as crimes against humanity.

According to Nigerian Tribune, Pre-Trial Chamber II dismissed the request on September 1 after finding it was not properly before the court and lacked legal basis.

Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi said the anonymous filing had initially been assigned to the chamber without proper procedural checks, prompting concerns from Nigeria.

He stressed that no ICC investigation had been opened against Nigeria and no adverse finding had been made against the country or its institutions. Nigeria urged the court to follow established procedures.
