Ghanaian Christian writer Samuel Sey, who publicly supported President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, has been detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to Peoples Gazette, the 39-year-old was arrested in Ohio on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Jail records showed that Sey had not been charged with any crime, while his detention status was listed as “Hold for ICE” on Friday afternoon.

Sey, who relocated to the United States in 2022 and subsequently married in Ohio, previously acknowledged lacking permanent residency and authorisation to work.

Despite his immigration status, he had defended Trump’s deportation policies on Christian ethical grounds and criticised protesters opposing ICE enforcement operations.

The writer has contributed commentary to conservative platforms, including The Daily Wire, World and Turning Point USA.

His detention has sparked renewed attention to the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.

Meanwhile, a Migration Policy Institute analysis estimated that Trump’s administration deported 980,000 migrants during the first 18 months of his second presidential term.
