ICPC recovers over 400 tricycles allegedly diverted by federal lawmaker
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered over 400 tricycles allegedly diverted by a senior federal lawmaker from southern Nigeria.
According to Saturday Telegraph, the recovery followed investigations under the commission’s Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Exercise, currently in its eighth phase.
Sources disclosed that the lawmaker allegedly withheld the tricycles, popularly called Keke NAPEP, for two to three years instead of distributing them to beneficiaries.
An official explained that the commission considered prosecution but prioritised distributing the recovered items to their intended recipients.
“At the end of the day, we collected them, and we gave them one after the other to the beneficiaries,” the source said.
The official added that lengthy court proceedings could delay access to the items.
The beneficiaries are reportedly using the tricycles to earn a living.
Meanwhile, ICPC has scheduled a December meeting with government agencies to strengthen transparency, accountability and project monitoring.
