ICPC sacks officer who helped el-Rufai’s wife gain unauthorised access to him

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has dismissed a security officer for helping Nasir el-Rufai’s wife bypass procedures to visit him in custody.

According to TheCable, Daniel Stephen was caught on CCTV assisting Aichatou Assabe el-Rufai into the ICPC premises through an unauthorised entrance on July 5.

Stephen admitted driving her inside, escorting her through a back entrance and taking her to where the former Kaduna governor was held. The visit lasted 15 minutes.

He acknowledged breaching security rules requiring visitors to register and obtain clearance.

Stephen also admitted helping another man, who claimed to be el-Rufai’s brother, gain unauthorised access.

El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody facing trial over alleged money laundering and conversion of public property.
