Quilty founder Daniel Wood says AI can give indie filmmakers an edge

Quilty founder Daniel Wood says artificial intelligence could give independent filmmakers an advantage by helping them evaluate screenplays, production risks and commercial prospects before committing resources.

According to Film Threat, Quilty analyses uploaded scripts using several AI models, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and DeepSeek, assigning different tasks based on their strengths.

The platform evaluates story and craft, commercial potential, cultural relevance and production feasibility, producing more than 300 pages of feedback across roughly 36 sections.

Wood said Quilty is designed to provide information rather than replace filmmakers’ judgment. He hopes the technology will empower independent creators, reduce costly development mistakes and ultimately help more films reach production.
