INEC to hold press conference, stakeholders’ meeting as 2027 polls near
The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday hold a world press conference and national stakeholders’ meeting to mark 100 days to the 2027 General Election, Punch reports.
The event, scheduled for October 6 in Abuja, will see the commission provide updates on its preparations for the polls, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
In a statement issued Sunday, INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, said the meeting would also serve as a platform for engagement with key stakeholders in the electoral process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will address the event alongside other stakeholders, with the Commission describing it as a demonstration of its commitment to “absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement.”
Expected attendees include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, observer groups, disability rights advocates, traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
The meeting comes as preparations enter a critical phase, with INEC’s timetable fixing February 20, 2027, for presidential and National Assembly elections, and March 6, 2027, for governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls.
The event will hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10am, with attendance strictly by invitation.
It will be broadcast live on national television and streamed on INEC’s social media platforms, the commission said, as the electoral calendar moves steadily toward the 2027 general election.
