Iran gives US seven-day deadline to reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran has proposed a seven-day roadmap for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting talks with the United States over its nuclear programme, subject to Washington meeting Tehran’s conditions.

According to Sahara Reporters, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the proposal was transmitted through Qatari mediators.

“If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened, a normal maritime passage restored within seven days. The choice now rests with the United States,” Araghchi said.

Tehran is seeking an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, a waiver of sanctions affecting oil sales and a regional ceasefire, including Lebanon.

Araghchi said the waterway could reopen on the sixth day, with nuclear talks beginning on the seventh.

The proposal comes amid disruption to one of the world’s key energy routes, through which about one-fifth of globally traded oil and gas passed before the conflict. Reports said US President Donald Trump had rejected the offer, although Washington had not officially confirmed the rejection.
