Israel condemns nobel peace prize award to Navi Pillay as ‘grotesque weaponization’
Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Friday strongly condemned the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to former International Criminal Court judge Navi Pillay, according to a report by The Hill.
In a social media statement, the ministry called the decision the “grotesque weaponization of an award to legitimize anti-Israel hatred and prejudice,” adding: “If there were an award for lies, hatred, and blood libels, Navi Pillay wouldn’t just be a contender. She’d be a frontrunner.”
Pillay received the honor for expanding international law, having recently led a UN report concluding “Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the committee “has lost its moral compass” by honoring “a bigot who built her career around inventing and propagating blood libels against the one and only Jewish state.” Following the announcement, the U.S. imposed sanctions against the ICC.
