JAMB takes over all HND admissions in polytechnics, NBTE announces
The National Board for Technical Education has announced that all Higher National Diploma admissions in polytechnics, allied institutions and colleges of nursing sciences and health technology will now be handled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, according to Punch.
The directive, contained in a September 9 circular signed by NBTE Executive Secretary Prof Idris Bugaje, followed a meeting between Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa and stakeholders including JAMB and NYSC. Bugaje said the move would ensure centralised admissions and curb “illegal and compromised admissions.”
NBTE will develop HND admission guidelines for JAMB’s digital platform, while part-time admissions are now capped at 50 per cent of each institution’s full-time quota. NCE holders can only access HND programmes via direct JAMB admission after obtaining a valid ND.
JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed compliance, while NBTE warned defaulting institutions risk “regulatory sanctions, including withdrawal of operational licence.”
