Japan announces sleeping contest with Rs 13.76 lakh up for grabs
A Japanese mattress company is organising a competitive sleeping tournament in Tokyo, offering a top prize of 2.22 million yen, approximately ₦2.5 million, to the contestant who achieves the deepest and most stable sleep. According to The Indian Express, the event will take place at Share Green Minami Aoyama on October 5, with participants judged on sleep depth, quality, stability and how quickly they fall asleep during a 90-minute session using tracking devices.
Contestants must complete pre-sleep exercises and will each receive a randomly assigned “sleep item” that could influence their performance. Rules bar participants from staying awake all night or using medication to induce sleep beforehand. Special awards include the Deep Sleep Dive Award and the Sleep-Turning Acrobat Award. Organisers said the contest aims to highlight Japan’s chronic sleep deprivation. Entry is free, with applications open until September 16.
