Jeff Bezos consortium buys almost 40% stake in Liverpool
A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has acquired almost 40% of Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group (FSG), in a deal that values the Premier League club at between £5bn and £6bn. According to the BBC, the 1892 Holdings group has purchased about 38% of Liverpool, more than the initially reported one-third stake.
The consortium is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and also includes Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Bhatia is expected to become Liverpool vice-chairman and join the club’s expanded board, subject to regulatory approval. The agreement also includes an option for the group to pursue a controlling stake within the next 12 months.
