Jeffries refuses to rule out Trump impeachment if Dems retake House
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., declined to rule out impeaching President Donald Trump should Democrats retake the House in the 2026 midterm elections, according to Newsmax.
“No, we haven’t ruled anything in and we haven’t ruled anything out in terms of impeachment,” Jeffries said on ABC’s “This Week,” adding he would defer to Judiciary and Oversight Committee Democrats and be “guided by the Constitution.”
Trump, impeached twice and acquitted both times, has predicted Democrats would move to impeach him again. “They’re going to impeach me. They have no idea why,” he said at a rally last week.
Jeffries vowed accountability for anyone who has “been screwing over the American people,” but also left the door open to bipartisan cooperation, citing the recently passed housing affordability bill as proof Democrats remain “committed to actually trying to find that common ground.”
