Open AI boss warns artificial intelligence could ‘go very badly’, threaten humanity
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has warned that artificial intelligence could “go very badly” if humanity loses control of its development, PM News.
Responding on X to warnings from former AI researcher Jacob Coxon that technology companies were “gambling with our lives”, Altman identified loss of human control and excessive concentration of AI power as two major dangers. He said AI must remain aligned with human interests and safety measures must keep pace with increasingly powerful systems.
Altman also backed slowing the pace of AI development without stopping progress, saying competition in the global AI race should not justify reckless advancement. Coxon and AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton have separately warned of potential catastrophic consequences.
