Journalist Aaron Greenspan ties three drug cases to Tinubu, flags possible fourth sealed case

American journalist and transparency activist Aaron Greenspan has identified at least three separate US cases connected to a 1990s drug-trafficking network investigation involving President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian businessman Abiodun Agbele, raising the possibility of a fourth, potentially sealed case, Sahara Reporters reports, citing Greenspan’s interview with Laolu Akande of Empowered Newswire published Wednesday.

According to Greenspan, the known cases comprise a 1992 set of criminal indictments tied to the alleged drug ring, a separate case involving Agbele, and a 1993 civil forfeiture proceeding through which US authorities seized about $460,000 held in an account in Tinubu’s name.

“There’s at least three known cases now that are tied to this drug ring,” Greenspan said, while stressing regarding a possible fourth case that “I don’t have any evidence that such a deal had been made… that remains an open question right now.”

He said Tinubu’s alleged link was financial, describing him as accused of “laundering money for the proceeds from the heroin distribution” rather than direct trafficking.

The claims stem from Greenspan’s ongoing FOIA lawsuit seeking historical FBI and DEA records, which is a civil records dispute rather than a criminal prosecution of Tinubu.

The Nigerian Presidency has repeatedly stressed this distinction, with Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga stating the case is “not a criminal case against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” and that no court had found him guilty of wrongdoing — a clarification likely to resurface as the FOIA battle, now also tangled with cyberattack allegations against Greenspan’s website, continues to unfold.
