Kenya confirms first-ever Ebola death, begins monitoring 28 contacts
Kenya has recorded its first-ever Ebola death after a man who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for the virus and died.
According to The Sun Nigeria, Health Minister Aden Duale said the Kenyan man became ill about a month ago while living in the DRC, where he received treatment.
He later travelled by road to Kampala, Uganda, before flying to Nairobi on October 3. He was screened upon arrival and subsequently tested positive for Ebola before dying at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday.
Authorities have identified 28 people who had contact with the patient, including relatives and healthcare workers. One has tested positive.
“I wish to assure the public not to panic, as all systems are in place to mitigate the spread of the disease,” Duale said.
Authorities said identified contacts would remain under monitoring as measures continue to prevent further transmission.
