Kidnappers cut ransom for abducted NYSC members from N1bn to N100m
Kidnappers holding 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members abducted in Imo State have reduced their ransom demand from N50m to N5m per victim.
According to The PUNCH, the reduction brings the total demand from N1bn to N100m, as families raise fresh concerns over the victims’ safety.
One parent, Alhaja Alimot Akande, said the abductors had started beating the victims.
“They are still demanding N5m. They have come down to N5m each,” she said.
Describing the situation, Akande added, “It has been horrible, scary and overwhelming.”
The graduates were travelling from Ibadan to NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when gunmen attacked their buses along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.
“They are not sparing anybody. They are beating all of them,” Akande said.
Security agencies, including the police and military, have said rescue operations are ongoing.
