Kylian Mbappe makes Champions League history by surpassing Messi’s record
Kylian Mbappe has become the youngest player in UEFA Champions League history to make 100 appearances, breaking the record previously held by Argentina legend Lionel Messi. According to Sports Mole, the Real Madrid forward reached the milestone aged 27 years and 298 days during his side’s Champions League clash against Roma on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Messi had previously held the record after making his 100th appearance in the competition at 28 years and 84 days, meaning Mbappe has surpassed the Barcelona great by almost a year. The French international began his Champions League career with Monaco, making nine appearances before featuring 64 times for Paris Saint-Germain, where he scored 42 goals and registered 26 assists.
He is now making his 27th appearance in the competition for Real Madrid, having already scored 23 goals and provided two assists for the Spanish giants. Despite questions over whether Real Madrid have improved as a team since his arrival on a free transfer, Mbappe’s individual numbers remain impressive. He has scored 94 goals and provided 14 assists in 113 appearances across all competitions for the club.
The milestone came during a difficult evening for Real Madrid against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Mbappe scored in the first half, but the Spanish side faced a tough challenge against the Italian hosts. The record further underlines Mbappe’s rapid rise among Europe’s elite, as he continues to establish himself as one of the leading forwards of his generation.
