Lab test revealed my wife’s orange juice unsafe for consumption – Osinbajo

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that a laboratory test found his wife Dolapo’s freshly squeezed orange juice unfit for human consumption, sparking alarm over hazardous chemical use by Nigerian farmers and fruit sellers, according to a report by The Punch.

Speaking at a Lagos gardening seminar, Osinbajo said his wife developed unexplained headaches despite her healthy juice habit, prompting the test. He cited studies showing widespread use of calcium carbide and other toxic substances like phosphite to ripen fruits such as bananas and mangoes. Osinbajo warned that fresh appearance doesn’t guarantee safety and called for stronger regulation, enforcement, and public awareness to curb the practice.
