Lamine Yamal closes in on Mbappe’s Champions League record ahead of Galatasaray clash
Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal is one goal away from matching Kylian Mbappe’s record for Champions League goals scored before turning 20.The 19-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 34 appearances in the competition, according to Barca Universal, which cited Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
Yamal moved within one goal of Mbappe’s teenage tally after scoring against Feyenoord on the opening matchday of this season’s Champions League league phase. Real Madrid forward Mbappe scored 13 Champions League goals before his 20th birthday, while Yamal needs two more strikes to surpass that mark.
The Barcelona sensation has already outscored Mbappe’s tally before turning 19, having netted 11 times in the competition by that age. Yamal has continued to establish himself as a key figure in Hansi Flick’s attack, with another opportunity to reach the milestone potentially arriving against Galatasaray this week.
The Spain international has also made history as the youngest player to score and assist in a Champions League match, achieving the feat against Benfica in March 2025, before becoming the youngest scorer in a semi-final against Inter Milan the following month.
