Lisandro Martinez plans Man Utd exit as Atletico Madrid emerge as potential destination
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez reportedly plans to leave the club next summer, with Atletico Madrid emerging as a potential destination following his criticism of director of football Jason Wilcox. According to TEAMtalk, citing reports from The Guardian and FlashScore journalist Dean Jones, Martinez is interested in joining Atletico, who have previously monitored the Argentina international.
The 28-year-old expressed frustration after United’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico, questioning the club’s recruitment and calling for greater investment. “I expect more [investment]. 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox].”
Martinez also urged United’s co-owners, INEOS, to maintain their faith in manager Michael Carrick rather than repeatedly changing coaches. Although his contract expires at the end of the season, United have an option to extend it by another year. TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey reports that the club will not sell Martinez solely because of his public criticism, despite their displeasure with his comments.
