Villarreal Midfielder hits back at Mourinho over Real Madrid referee complaints
Villarreal midfielder Santi Comesana has hit back at Jose Mourinho’s criticism of the referee following his side’s defeat to Real Madrid, insisting the Spanish club have little reason to complain about the officiating. According to Madrid Universal, Comesana responded to Mourinho’s remarks after Villarreal’s victory over Napoli, defending the referee’s decisions during the controversial encounter.
The match featured several contentious incidents, including Vinicius Junior’s red card and a disallowed goal, prompting Mourinho to criticise the officiating during his pre-match press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League meeting with AS Roma. “I saw something from the first minute. I don’t know what they’re complaining about with the referee and all that. If it’s a red card, it’s a red card,” Comesana said, as quoted by AS.
The midfielder also accused Real Madrid players of putting excessive pressure on the official. “They were really going after him from the first minute. It was senseless. They’ll see what they’re doing,” he added. Comesana lamented Villarreal’s failure to secure a positive result despite what he considered a strong performance at the Bernabeu.
