London Non-League Goalkeeper chosen as King of Uganda’s Tooro kingdom
London non-league goalkeeper George Kamurasi has been chosen to become the next king of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom, in a remarkable turn of events that could take him from the football pitch to the royal palace. According to The Telegraph, the 36-year-old SE Dons captain was selected by a 21-member royal succession committee following the death of his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, on August 27 after cancer treatment.
Kamurasi, who plays for the Bexleyheath-based club, was second in line to the throne under the will of his late grandfather, former Tooro king George Rukidi III. The Tooro monarch is a cultural rather than political leader. Kamurasi is reportedly reluctant to leave the UK, with his new position expected to be formally declared next week.
