Machete-wielding man storms Lekki IMAX cinema, two dead

Two people died Friday night after a machete-wielding man stormed IMAX Cinemas in Lekki, Lagos State, according to Vanguard News.

Security guards blocked the suspect, who appeared to be under drug influence, from entering the premises, triggering a violent confrontation that sparked panic among patrons and staff. Lagos State Police Command spokesperson SP Adebisi Abimbola confirmed the attacker stabbed one security guard to death and injured another before being mobbed by bystanders and dying at the scene.

Abimbola said the suspect, believed to be destitute, had his identity and the full sequence of events still under investigation. The cinema’s Chief Security Officer has been taken into custody as police work to retrieve CCTV footage to clarify what happened and identify any other individuals involved.

The incident has renewed concerns over security lapses at entertainment venues in Lagos. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or details on the injured guard’s condition. Investigations continue.
