Man sues EFCC over wanted declaration, eeeks ₦5 million damages

A Nigerian living abroad, Oluwatosin Adekunle, has sued the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its decision to declare him wanted, demanding ₦5 million in damages.

According to Naija News, Adekunle is asking the court to declare the EFCC’s action unlawful and unconstitutional, alleging that it violated his fundamental rights.

In an affidavit dated August 24, 2026, Adekunle alleged that the commission declared him wanted on August 19 and published the notice online without obtaining a court order.

He is seeking an order directing the EFCC to remove the notice and stop further publication of his name as a wanted person.

Adekunle is also demanding a public apology and ₦5 million in general damages.

He said the dispute stemmed from an EFCC investigation involving his business partner, Victoria Chidinma Nwachukwu, over alleged money laundering and obtaining money under false pretences.

Adekunle denied involvement in the alleged offences. No hearing date has been fixed.
