Manchester City player ratings vs RB Leipzig: Haaland delivers decisive blow as Anderson shines in thrilling victory

Share:

Manchester City survived a difficult evening in Germany to beat RB Leipzig 3-2 and climb into the Champions League’s top eight. Enzo Maresca’s side twice surrendered their advantage, with Ridle Baku and Antonio Nusa cancelling out an own goal from Castello Lukeba and Enzo Fernandez’s header.

However, Erling Haaland settled the contest in the 78th minute, finishing Elliot Anderson’s excellent cut-back. Anderson, Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye were among City’s standout performers, although defensive vulnerabilities and Gianluigi Donnarumma’s uncertain display will concern Maresca despite the important victory.

Manchester City player ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 5/10

Produced an excellent fingertip save against Christoph Baumgartner but looked uncomfortable throughout. Should have done better against Baku’s effort at his near post.

Matheus Nunes – 6/10

Made an important early block to deny David Raum but struggled to contain Leipzig’s dangerous left flank. Replaced by Ruben Dias late on.

Abdukodir Khusanov – 7/10

Delivered City’s most dependable defensive performance, clearing dangerous deliveries and remaining composed under pressure. Had little responsibility for either Leipzig goal.

Marc Guehi – 6/10

Made important interceptions and dealt with several dangerous situations, but struggled alongside his defensive partners as Leipzig repeatedly threatened.

Nico O’Reilly – 7/10

His dangerous delivery forced Lukeba into an own goal. Also used his pace effectively but wasted a glorious headed opportunity.

Elliot Anderson – 8/10

Recovered brilliantly from his involvement in Leipzig’s equaliser, bursting into the penalty area before setting up Haaland’s winner. Excellent energy and ball recovery.

Enzo Fernandez – 8/10

Showed excellent awareness to head home City’s second goal. Also contributed defensively and created an early opportunity for Cherki.

Rayan Cherki – 7/10

Provided City’s biggest creative threat, forcing saves and striking the crossbar. His movement and ability to create opportunities troubled Leipzig throughout.

Phil Foden – 6/10

Produced a decent first-half effort and helped initiate Fernandez’s goal but struggled to influence proceedings consistently from the right.

Iliman Ndiaye – 8/10

One of City’s liveliest attackers, delivering an excellent cross for Fernandez’s goal and creating another opportunity for Cherki.

Erling Haaland – 8/10

Relatively quiet in the opening period but delivered when it mattered, sliding home Anderson’s cut-back to secure his 13th goal in nine appearances against Leipzig.

Substitutes

Jeremy Doku – 7/10

Introduced to strengthen City’s defence during the closing stages as Leipzig searched for another equaliser.

Ayyoub Bouaddi – N/A

Came on for the final stages, with insufficient time to make a significant contribution.
