Como make Champions League history with record-equalling 9-1 rout Of Lens
Como made Champions League history on Wednesday after thrashing Lens 9-1 to equal the competition’s biggest-ever winning margin.
According to UEFA’s official website, the Italian side became only the second team to score nine goals in a Champions League match, matching Bayern Munich’s achievement against Dinamo Zagreb in September 2024.
The victory also equalled the record eight-goal winning margin previously achieved by Liverpool and Real Madrid. Liverpool defeated Besiktas 8-0 in November 2007, while Real Madrid recorded the same scoreline against Malmo in December 2015.
Como’s remarkable performance was led by Tasos Douvikas, who scored a hat-trick, while six other players also found the net in France. The 9-1 result also established a new record for the biggest away victory in Champions League history.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s 8-4 victory over Legia Warsaw in 2016 remains the competition’s highest-scoring match with 12 goals.
