Marseille and Athletic Bilbao finish summer without a single signing
Marseille and Athletic Bilbao have emerged as the only clubs across Europe’s top five leagues to make no new signing during the summer transfer window, according to GOAL. While Athletic’s inactivity reflects their long-standing recruitment policy focused on Basque players and academy development, Marseille’s situation is linked to serious financial restrictions.
The Ligue 1 side endured a major squad overhaul, losing Mason Greenwood, Facundo Medina, Quinten Timber, Geronimo Rulli, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Leonardo Balerdi among others. With no reinforcements arriving, Marseille face a difficult campaign as they attempt to balance domestic and European commitments with a significantly depleted squad.
