Arsenal teenager Max Dowman matched a remarkable record held by Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney after his stunning performance in the Gunners’ 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Ipswich Town. As reported by Sports Mole, the 16-year-old scored twice at Portman Road to help Arsenal progress to the fourth round.

Dowman became only the second 16-year-old to score twice in a match for a Premier League club in all competitions, matching Rooney’s achievement for Everton against Wrexham in 2002. He also became the first Arsenal player to score twice in a game before turning 17. Mikel Arteta hailed Dowman as “unbelievable” after the teenager produced two composed finishes to cap a memorable night.
