Meta faces child privacy trial over Instagram, Facebook

Meta is set to face a major jury trial in the United States that could force sweeping changes to Instagram and Facebook. According to Tribune Online, citing BBC News, the trial involving Meta and 30 US states begins Tuesday, with states seeking over $1 trillion in damages.

The states accuse Meta of designing its platforms to exploit young users, deliberately fostering addictive engagement through features like autoplay, notifications and like counts. Proposed remedies include parental verification, algorithm restrictions and removal of appearance filters. Meta denies the allegations, insisting it remains committed to protecting young users.
