The Mexican government has approved the appointment of Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, ending eight months of uncertainty over his diplomatic posting.

According to The Cable , Omokri announced the development in a post on X on Tuesday, confirming that Mexico had formally granted its diplomatic approval, known as agrément.

The approval was delivered by José Manuel Briseño Flores, chargé d’affaires of the Mexican embassy in Abuja, to Babagana Wakil, director of protocol at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“To God be the glory, the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the United Mexican States in Abuja, Mr José Manuel Briseño Flores, today in Abuja delivered the agrément from the Government of the United Mexican States accepting me,” Omokri said.

President Bola Tinubu had assigned Omokri to Mexico in March, but the appointment remained pending.

Omokri will also serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua under concurrent accreditation arrangements.
