Michigan Democrat Haley Stevens backs Republican Mike Rogers over Abdul El-Sayed in Senate race

Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens has endorsed Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers over Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, CNBC reported. The announcement came on Sunday, two days before Election Day, in a race that could determine which party controls the Senate.

Stevens lost the primary to El-Sayed but had since backed him. In a video statement on X, Stevens said: “And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.” The move followed tension over an ad by Rebellion PAC, which El-Sayed’s campaign said it was not involved in.

El-Sayed, speaking outside a church on Sunday, dismissed the endorsement. “I actually don’t think about Haley Stevens,” he said. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, in a post to X, called the endorsement “a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens.” Michigan Democratic Party chair Curtis Hertel said in an X post: “Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future.”
