Florida plane crash: 9 On board as jet downed just miles from Mar-a-Lago
A private jet carrying nine people crashed into a residential area near Cresthaven, Florida, on Sunday, about nine miles from President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Fox News reports.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the crash happened around 12:50 p.m. local time. “Nine people were on board,” the agency said.
The aircraft, a Learjet 60, left Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, the FAA said. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, with the NTSB leading and providing updates.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue warned the public to avoid the area and said the incident would be extended.
Emergency crews shut down Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Video shared on social media showed the aircraft dropping rapidly before an explosion sent smoke and flames into the air.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
