Mohamed Salah sets European record Messi and Ronaldo have not matched
Mohamed Salah has achieved a European football record that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have not matched since the 2017-18 season. According to World Soccer Talk, citing statistics provider Opta, the Egyptian forward has scored and assisted in 13 different major European matches during that period, four more than any other player.
Salah reached the milestone during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 Conference League victory over KuPS. He assisted Paul Onuachu’s third-minute opener before scoring in the 44th minute, completing his 13th match featuring both a goal and an assist. The performance marked an impressive start to Trabzonspor’s Conference League league-phase campaign following Salah’s arrival in August as a free agent.
The former Liverpool star spent nine seasons at Anfield, scoring 257 goals in 442 appearances before moving to Turkey on a two-year contract. Salah has also made an encouraging start in the Turkish Super Lig, recording 10 goal contributions in his first seven league matches, according to the report. Meanwhile, Messi and Ronaldo continue pursuing the landmark of 1,000 career goals, with the report placing Ronaldo on 981 and Messi on 934.
