Tinubu spent ₦9trn NLNG dividends meant for states — Makinde
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of spending ₦9 trillion in Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) dividends allegedly meant for Nigeria’s 36 states.
According to Peoples Gazette, Makinde made the allegation on Friday during a stakeholders’ engagement on Oyo State’s 2027 budget at the University of Ibadan.
“They fooled us. The Nigeria LNG paid dividends to the federal government, which went straight into the Federation Account, but they spent it,” he said.
Makinde claimed each state was entitled to over ₦250 billion, which his administration had planned to invest in development projects.
“Now, they say they are not going to pay that money until after the election. Is the election more important than the people of Nigeria?”
The Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate suggested the delay could be politically motivated to prevent governors from supporting opposition candidates.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had not responded to requests for comment.
The allegations remain unverified, with no independent confirmation of the alleged spending.
