NDLEA nabs Ugandan woman with 87 cocaine wraps strapped to body at Lagos airport
A Ugandan woman who came to Lagos for a religious programme was caught at the airport with 87 wraps of cocaine strapped to her body, the NDLEA says.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 34-year-old Ugandan woman, Farida Nansubuga, with 87 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.15 kilogrammes, allegedly concealed around her pelvic region, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Vanguard reports.
She was arrested on Tuesday, November 3, while preparing to board a flight to Uganda, the agency said. She arrived on October 29 for a religious programme and stayed behind after other members of her delegation left.
She reportedly claimed she was to collect the consignment for a friend in Uganda and expected at least $1,000 on delivery.
The agency also reported other seizures, including:
- 750,000 tablets of Tapentadol, valued at about N900 million, declared as paracetamol
- 16.15 kilogrammes of cannabis hidden in two sofas from Houston
- 1,818 kilogrammes of cannabis in Ondo State
NDLEA chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) said the arrest was a reminder that drug cartels were exploiting religious travel to recruit couriers.
