Nigeria High Commission announces £50 refund for passport applicants
The Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom has announced plans to refund £50 to applicants who paid a £70 administrative fee for the ongoing passport intervention exercise, according to Vanguard.
The refund will reduce the charge to £20, the fee previously approved during an earlier exercise under the late President Muhammadu Buhari. The commission announced the move on its website following protests over the £70 fee, which it emerged had not been approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
NIS spokesman Akinsola Akinlabi said passport fees remained $162 for five-year and $242 for 10-year booklets, with no additional charges required. He said 1,477 applicants had been processed in the exercise’s first four days, with the London and Manchester programme extended to October 3.
