Nigerian extradited to US over sextortion scheme linked to Mississippi teen’s death

A Nigerian man has been extradited to the United States to face charges over a sextortion scheme that led to a Mississippi teenager’s death. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Mississippi, Adebola Festus Adekunle, 26, of Lagos, was extradited on August 27, 2026, and appeared in federal court in Oxford the following day.

He faces a three-count indictment including sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death, production of child sexual abuse material, and extortion. The DOJ said Nigerian authorities assisted the years-long investigation, which formed part of the FBI’s Operation Artemis targeting sextortion rings.
