Nigerian man jailed 17 years for raping woman in Wales

A 20-year-old woman has recounted how Nigerian national Gift Oladele raped her after dragging her into a wooded area in Wrexham, Wales.

The victim, who remains anonymous, told The Punch that Oladele approached her while she was returning home from a night out on September 7, 2025.

Oladele, 24, was sentenced to 17 years in prison in April after being convicted of rape and sexual assault. The woman said he overpowered her, struck her repeatedly and threatened her against reporting the attack. Oladele, who denied the offences and claimed consent, was also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a lifetime restraining order protecting the victim.
