NAFDAC links counterfeit products surge to Chinese syndicates
NAFDAC has attributed the surge in counterfeit products across Nigeria to Chinese syndicates now operating locally, according to Daily Post Nigeria. The agency’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Martins Iluyomade, said intelligence showed counterfeit networks had shifted from importing fake goods to establishing production and distribution operations within the country, identifying fast-selling products, sending samples to China for replication, and distributing them through logistics firms they control.
NAFDAC said it had begun shutting down illegal logistics facilities linked to the network. Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said enforcement operations in Lagos and the South-East led to the destruction of fake products worth over ₦1.5 trillion, with 64 convictions secured between June 2025 and June 2026.
