Nigerian stocks lose N266bn to foreign investors’ exodus
Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) net capital outflow from Nigeria’s equities market surged by more than 1,073 per cent, rising from N22.68 billion in the first seven months of 2023 to N266.07 billion by July 2026.
According to Vanguard, data from the Nigerian Exchange Limited showed foreign investors recorded N513.36 billion in inflows against N779.43 billion in outflows between January and July 2026.
Analysts attributed the widening gap to profit-taking, portfolio rebalancing and continued caution over Nigeria’s macroeconomic environment. The trend persisted despite increased NGX trading activity, which reached N11.98 trillion, driven largely by domestic investors.
