A U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services contractor, Bankole Olaniyi Akinfe, has been charged with allegedly stealing RAM modules from government laptops in Maryland.

According to Peoples Gazette, the 49-year-old was charged by criminal complaint with theft of government property following an investigation by authorities.

Prosecutors said Akinfe was observed on August 27 removing at least 10 Random-Access Memory modules from USCIS laptops without authorisation, placing them in his pocket and leaving the premises.

Akinfe had worked as a contractor at USCIS headquarters’ Information Technology Customer Support Centre since December 2025.

Authorities stressed that the complaint does not establish guilt. If convicted, Akinfe faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison because the allegedly stolen property exceeds $1,000 in value.
