Nigeria’s new satellites to track criminals, boost military communications — NIGCOMSAT

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited says its upcoming NigComSat-2A and 2B satellites will support the tracking of criminals and provide secure communication channels for military personnel in remote areas, Nairametrics reports.

NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director, Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, said the satellites would aid surveillance and address communication gaps faced by troops in locations like Sambisa Forest. She said existing channels were often vulnerable to compromise. The Federal Executive Council approved the satellites’ acquisition in August 2026, with NigComSat-2A slated for launch in 2028 and 2B in 2029, following years of delays to the replacement programme.
