No ceasefire deal with Nigeria government, Boko Haram ‘judge’ says
According to Premium Times, citing HumAngle, Boko Haram has denied reports that it reached a ceasefire agreement with the Nigerian government. The outlet reports the denial came via a video from the group’s Sharia judge, Mallam Abdulrahman, who called the claim “a lie” and accused the government of deceiving the public ahead of elections.
This follows The New Humanitarian’s report that the government secretly struck a truce with a Boko Haram faction, allegedly involving a N5 billion ransom, to secure the June release of over 300 civilians abducted from Ngoshe. Premium Times notes the government has denied the ransom claim, and the NSA’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
