No opposition candidate can fix Nigeria, including Obi, says Datti

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has said none of the politicians challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027, including his former running mate Peter Obi, can improve Nigeria.

As reported by Punch, speaking on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Baba-Ahmed advised Tinubu to prepare to leave office but insisted power should not pass to any current opposition figure, arguing they had all “been in bed together” politically at some point.

Pressed on whether this included Obi, he replied, “including Peter Obi, I’m sorry to say,” citing Obi’s past membership of the Peoples Democratic Party while it was the ruling party.

Baba-Ahmed further challenged the host to name any politician who had never belonged to a ruling party.

When Okinbaloye noted his own political history, Baba-Ahmed maintained he had never held an APC membership card, having resigned when his former party, CPC, merged into the APC.

Baba-Ahmed and Obi ran together in 2023 before both later moved to different parties ahead of 2027.
